This technology, called AirConsole, is a new gaming component found in some of Audi's vehicles.
What is AirConsole?
AirConsole is essentially an infotainment system that's dedicated exclusively to gaming. AirConsole allows passengers to pass the time on trips by playing games on the road. The system also has a privacy screen function that prevents the driver from viewing the screen and becoming distracted. AirConsole is a popular feature for occupants as it allows them to play solo video games or group games on the go. Solo games in the AirConsole portfolio include “Snowboard Buddies” and “GoKart Go!”, while multiplayer games include “Car Party” and “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?”.
Regardless of the number of occupants playing along, AirConsole works similarly on all rides. The AirConsole system connects to occupants' smartphones using a QR code. That code allows riders to open the AirConsole app and select their favorite game.
Although they may play together, all video game participants have their own controllers. The wireless connection that pairs AirConsole with users' smartphones also allows for a quick and convenient WiFi-based pairing system. For convenience, owners can get the Audi Connect PLUS suite, which includes onboard vehicle WiFi connectivity that makes using AirConsole and other web-based features a breeze.
What Vehicles Have AirConsole?
At this time, Audi is equipping several vehicles in its lineup with AirConsole. The cars sporting the new technology include the Audi A5, Audi Q5, and Audi A6 e-tron. The A5 is a sleek, stunning sporty sedan with an upscale cabin and AirConsole. The Q5 is a small luxury SUV with a stylish cabin and a head-turning exterior. The A6 e-tron is Audi's electric sedan with impressive range and fast charging times. With the e-tron, the AirConsole can also be used for group gaming at charging stations.
