Audi Launches First Vehicle-Integrated Toll Technology for the US

Audi of America has announced its plans to launch a new vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) system that lets drivers easily travel toll roads. The secret will be in the vehicle’s mirrors, which will communicate to the tolling system for payment and access.

The Integrated Toll Module (ITM) is mostly a transponder built into Audi cars’ rearview mirror. The feature lets drivers ditch traffic on various highways in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Imagine being able to cut the line in the cafeteria without having to take out a pass showing your privilege. Such is possible with Audi ITM system. The idea behind the rearview mirror feature is to reduce and even eliminate windshield clutter that includes passes that must be attached to the window for drivers to take shorter and less-congested routes. With the ITM feature, Audi hopes to make the driving experience a bit safer by providing a more clear view of which owners can see the road.

One of many perks associated with the new V2I feature coming to Audi of America is the ability to manage multiple toll road accounts from one source. The days of logging into several sites to ensure that passes are valid are far and few. You can connect all of your toll road accounts to one platform and quickly turn them ON and OFF. It is also possible to modify the settings according to the occupant.

This is not the first time that Audi has expanded its V2I technology. However, this the first time that paying for tolling roads has become so easy for the brand’s car owners. There is no telling what Audi will come up with next regarding its cars’ communication with the environment around them. Stop by your local dealer today to test drive a 2018 Audi car or truck.
