5 Tips to Prepare Your Vehicle for the Spring

Audi TT Roadster in Spring

Cold temperatures can wreak havoc on your vehicle along with the road conditions faced each day like snow, ice and road salt. With the spring weather quickly approaching, now is the perfect time to prepare your vehicle for spring and give it a once over to take care of any damage or wear that has taken place over the winter months. You can bring your vehicle to your local dealership to have this done for you, or you can do these tasks yourself. In general, this isn’t an expensive undertaking, and you will have your vehicle cleaned up and ready in no time. Let’s take a look at five tips for preparing your car for spring this year:

1. Washing The Underbody

Over the course of the winter, the underside of your vehicle will become coated entirely in road salt, sand, dirt and more. If you leave these things in your vehicle, it is bound to cause rust and corrosion in a short amount of time. When you don’t take care of these issues, your car can become a danger to drive, and you can deplete the value of the vehicle. You can get under your car and get to work cleaning but if you want to get it done easier, stop by a local car wash facility and use a high powered wash wand to clean out the bottom of your vehicle. No soap or harsh solvents are needed. Also, open up your hood and do a quick clean of this area. There can be a lot of leaves and dirt that can accumulate in here.

2. Washing The Exterior

Just like salt and dirt can corrode and damage the underside of your vehicle, this can happen to the exterior paint job as well. When the weather finally breaks, and the temperatures are above freezing, bust out the car soap and wax to give your vehicle a thorough cleaning. You probably will have to pay a bit more attention to detail with this initial cleaning but from here on out it will be easier.

3. Replace Your Windshield Wiper Blades

Even if you have some high-quality wiper blades on your vehicle, these items are replaceable and should be removed periodically. Some vehicles utilize winter wiper blades which aren’t needed for the warmer weather months. Swap out your wiper blades for something new that is designed to work against rain and mild weather concerns, which is a pretty affordable maintenance item to address, but it is well worth the investment.

4. Check The Air In Your Tires

Some vehicles come with sensors in each tire that will alert you if your vehicle’s tires need air, but just in case this system isn’t working correctly, check the air pressure in all four of your tires. You want to make sure that levels are not too low but also that they are not too high either. The cold weather can compress the air in your tires. Since temperatures are now warmer, you may have too high of air levels especially if you filled up in the winter.

5. Check Your Fluid Levels

Checking your fluid levels includes your windshield wiper fluid levels as well as oil levels and transmission fluid. All of these fluids should be at the recommended levels, and an oil change can be beneficial as well. You can get all of these fluids topped off at our service center in a short amount of time.
